Lost in translation for many days! Came across this today from Our daily bread in YMIblogging website. http://ymiblogging.org/love/ Indeed God is speaking.

Who Am I?
READ: Psalm 8
What is man that You are mindful of him? —Psalm 8:4

The song "Who Am I?" by Mark Hall of the musical group Casting Crowns, begins: "Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt?"

In this song, Hall compares our lives to "a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow . . . a vapor in the wind." He reflects, "When we understand how small we really are and how awesome God is, then God’s love becomes bigger to us."

I am reminded of David’s question in Psalm 8. When he considered the heavens, the moon, and the stars, he was amazed by the God of the universe who created them and holds them together. In awe, he asked, "What is man that You are mindful of him?" (v.4).

Why are we the object of God’s love and care and thoughts? In his song, Hall answers the question this way: "Not because of who I am, but because of what You’ve done; not because of what I’ve done, but because of who You are."

Who is God? He is love. What has God done? He gave His only Son Jesus to die for us and pay the penalty for our sins (1 John 4:7-9). No wonder we want to shout with the psalmist: "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!" (Ps. 8:1,9). — Anne Cetas

Father, thank You that You have made us the objectof Your love. The club installed a horse-walking machine to relieve the work of 14 stable assistants aged 55 or older. The machine.. hehe.. prefer to call it horse treadmill, ;p, works like a merry-go-round with rotating frilles that keep up to eight horses walking around a circular track.

There is this Advantage! Scheme that Workforce Development Agency (WDA) has come up with to encourage companies to embrace older workers. The scheme is offering up to $400k to companies who adopts age-friendly work practices - such as redesigning jobs and restructuring wage systems- to recruit, retain and rehire older workers.

Killing two birds with one stone. the machine costs $100k only, you get $400k, you allow the knowledge of older workers to be passed on to younger colleagues.

Haha.. its a funny thing i feel. Each referring to SPM Lee. Prosecution applying for his remand in IMH. If found guilty (which i believe is super highly possible) could be fined up to $2k or jailed for up to three years. Anithing to do with government stuff, dont mess with us, Singapore. Especially political figures. Media coverage will bring you down.

More or less i'm proud of Singapore being able to curb vandalism. Unlike Australia or any other country in the world. I doubt no country has such strict regulations like Spore. To be fair in say, i feel that Spore has good legal regulations over anything that is considered a crime, under our law. The critical point is not only having the good law but also the good enforcement of the law.

Thank God Spore is small. What do i feel when i see vandalism in Brisbane?
Hmm... a bit disgusted. Shocked at first. Then gradually, i understand why people vandalise and i feel sad. Sad for both the perpetrators and the country.

I rmb watching a movie starring one of the characters- a juvenile delinquent. He sought attention from graffiti. He told his fren that he was leaving his mark behind. When people look at his 'art', he feels that they are watching him. He feels recognised. He lacked attention and love from his family. He looked to crime offending instead.

1st Article: Conned into renting same house

Singapore Straits Times, 16 January 2009, Friday HOME

Oki this is the first review i'm doing since .. a very long time.

Apparently there is this rental scam. The conman has alr fled with at least $10,300. Dont know when he's going to strike again.

After reading the article i have a feeling this guy, Ryan is the same guy Mr Choy's client is trying to trace. Both cases aren't exactly the same but they are about the breach of tenancy agreement of at least some misrepresentation and fraud since the company is fake.

Currently this case is whereby the conman has successfully rented off the property in question to a malaysian couple for a two month deposit of $4,300 (2,150 per month) - in cash. The best joke is that the two agents witnessed it. I guess they were victims too. Just that i feel the agents were negligent in checking the reliability of this ryan. he claimed to be the property manager- cum- landlord. and they had run an ownership search that showed he was not one of the owners. how could he have the keys to the hse? wasn't it fishy?

The latter was a Japanese expatriate. She met the malaysian couple at the same house. She had paid $6,000.

Naturally its hard to differentiate who's good. And definitely hard to suspect since even the 2 property agents were intervening. The global economic outlook isn't good. Rental and property prices and soaring super low. He's smart to stike while the iron's hot. but God will catch up with him. Just beware that you check thoroughly the source of the person before committing to close the deal.

I'm back

I'm going to try reviving this blog with my reflections on news articles i read. There has been the reinforcement throughtout these weeks underlining the need to redouble efforts at attracting more immigrants and retainging ties with overseas Singaporeans to boost population figures. We have had 30 years of under-replacement. The many measures in the $300 million package include longer maternity leave, more cash incentives, five-day work week, seem to motivate few. I agree strongly with Ms Ong that children are a life-commitment. I do feel that the incentives the government provides to encourage an average of 4 children in a household is insufficient to alleviate the long-term expenses of having a child or more children. The cash incentives will only benefit the couple in the child's early stage of life. However, the family management within a big family, having many mouths to feed is not being aided. In addition, some people such as i are still stuck on the old beliefs. The government had many campaigns in the post-war era to stick to the maiximum of 2 children. I find this still relevant to me. Two children is the best number. I find it rather unfair to some families to have 5 children while other couples decide to have no children. I believe this the is main problem. If every couple were to have 2 children, the population will be averaged out. Hence, i believe it is the whole community's effort that is needed and not only a family's effort. Of course, i still believe that the package has its advantages as it is like a starter kit to help you get started on planning instead of just sitting on the fence.

Easy to obtain, easy to abuse

Straits Times, 22 August 2006

CARRYING forth the charity sector, many people react by referrence to the NKF scandal. So what can we Singaporeans do or should do to protect the integrity and reputation of many charity organisations? Here, in this article, Theresa Tan mentions that it is easy to get charity status and that is potentially leading to abuses in the name of charity. All it takes to become a charity is for a society or company limited by guarantee or trust to submit a one-page application form to the Commissioner of Charities (COC). By constrast to England and Wales' Charity commissions, Singapore is rather lenient. Their application form is almost 50 pages long, asking the full details of the organisation that is register. There are many foundations who have been actively raising funds, however, the money is yet to be disbursed. I feel that this whole episode is stirring a huge mismatch between how the public and the authorities perceive charities. At the end of the day, the victims are those who need the money urgently for various reasons. Indeed, charity status is easy to obtain, yet easy to abuse. I feel that the process of ingraining that full-trust needed to contribute to charity once again is going to be tough.

Greying China a threat to its prosperity

Straits Times, 22 August 2006

AN ALARMING percentage of China's population is ageing. The one-child policy has led to such a consequences and is causing China to face a labour shortage in the time to come. The labour force is the most basic support of the country's economic development. Hence, the government is taking up measures to expand their population. I find it rather amusing that China has become one of the unique developing countries in the world which is ageing first without becoming affluent. There are leading problems such as a lack of state pension fund. In addition, there is a social problem: An entire generation of unhealthly children. Percentages show that there is rapid increase in the number of adolescences who suffer from obesity or short-sightedness. I find this worrying too such that China's economic growth will be stunned if the current situation persists. 'This generation might be haunted by chronic diseases, having a huge burden on China's social security system,' as one of the papers said in the editorial. I feel that the worse victims of such a policy, are the local families. There is less labour to help them in their work such as farming, etc. The ageing population will also have a much smaller younger generation to look after them. Thus, in turn affecting the whole country's economic growth on the whole.

Embrace talent, technology to secure Spore's future: PM

Straits Times, 21 August 2006

PM LEE's vision of Singapore is a global city with citizens firmly anchored to the country and welcoming of new immigrants to add to its vitality. I agree very strongly that this vision can only be fulfilled when both individuals and nation learn to adapt together in this rapidly changing society. There is the assessment that our growing nation is facing three long-term challenges: Boosting the population, tackling the benefits and burdens of the digital age, and building the 'heartwave' to root Singaporeans to their land. However, i disagree that 'it's just a matter of having the babies'. Yes, there is the fear of a vanishing population over the years. Our current issue of ageing population is worrying but i believe there are others ways apart from simply having a larger number of children in each family. And i am encouraged that our Singaporean governement is aware of this. Hence, i am proud that there are alternatives that will reach out to other Singaporeans who have different views of enlarging our population. This would benefit mothers such that they will be under less pressure to populate the society and juggle with their careers. In response to PM Lee's key messages, for immigrants, there will be a new citizenship and Population Unit. This will encourage more foreign talent to migrate to Singapore and contribute more. As Mr Lee said, 'people know Singapore is special, they even have heard of the little red dot. But they don't know that Singapore is in search of talent. Indeed, i too believe that to meet these difficult challenges ahead, we must inculcate courage and spirit, make the change, adapt, sacrifice, fight together and win. I feel that this is our duty.

Japan takes gamble on casinos

Straits Times, 14 August 2006

BY 2008, Japan should receive the 'go' sign to begin three casinos. Their integrated resort will include a casino, Japanese-style hot springs and unsurpassed Japanese cuisine. If their venture succeeds, they will pose a great threat to Singapore, Macau and other Asian locations which are harnessing their casinos to strengthen their share of regional tourism dollar. There has not been much debate on the subject in Japan but on how the plan should be implemented. I feel that this is worrying. What has the world become? Japan's manager who is charge of this plan can mention that since even Singapore is doing it, why cant they? This makes me reflect on how Singapore is seen. From a young and innocent nation, clean and uncorrupted, Singapore's main focus on right values has compromised with the great big, 'mature' world out there. People have begun to perceive Singapore as one country opening up to liberalisation. Will Singapore become the SIN city no. 2? I fear that although our economy might boom as a result of the 2 casinos, but will it be degraded in its value system and lead to its downfall? Or will we be no.2 Venice? I pray for our growing country. Earnestly.

A home to some, a hazard to all

Straits Times, 14 August 2006

MANY elderly people are unwilling to clear up their cluttered homes. Their homes become fire hazards and breeding grounds for bugs. There will be volunteers who will help to clean up. However, the biggest problem is that these senior citizens are unwilling to part with their old possessions as have great sentimental value and significance. Many of these seniors have no relatives nor descendants such that they are only left with their old belongings. It is indeed hard to persuade them to clear them away as we symphathise with some who suffer from obsessive complusive disorder. The dilema is such that the residents' safety have to be ensured yet, nothing can be thrown out of their flat without their consent.

IRAN AND SYRIA: Alliance of convenience

Straits Times, 10 August 2006

AS A result of the middle east conflict, there have been so many negative impacts globally. Tamil Tigers say that they have ended blockage but the government denies claim and responds with artillery fire. I feel that the government and Tamil tigers both are repsonsible for the decades year old conflict. It takes two hands to clap. If the government had paid more attention on its citizens, there will be less protesters. The clashes have spread where increasingly number of innocent lives are loss. I feel indignant towards how each party has violently reacted. Who benefits? No one. I feel that final and worse victims of this conflict over the water supply are not the soldiers, instead, the villagers who depend on the water supply for life. The cruel violence has swept away hundreds of people and left ten thousands displaced. At the end, the children and families left behind are the affected. Hence, there is the importance for peace talks to come such situations can enlighten the 'warriors' of the deadly consequences of their thoughtless actions.

The BIGGEST event ever

Straits Times, 6 August 2006

SINGAPORE will be hosting the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Bank meetings this year. The city roads and shops are going to be filled with over 16,000 visitors. It is indeed a great opportunity to showcase the country to the world, boost tourism and further advance in our country's economy. I feel proud and excited to have such a big and major international conference take place in our small island. It surely is a great event to look forward to with preparation and expectancy. Hotels, retailers, restaurants have been busy preparing and spicing up for the grand arrival. I feel encouraged and thrilled to be part of campaigns set up to warmly introduce our distinguished guests. For instance, the Four Million Smiles publicity campaign has pulled in people from all over Singapore to submits photographs of their biggest smiles to welcome governors of IMF and the World Bank Group. Taxi drivers have also undergone briefings on security issues as apart of the preparation procedure. Altogether, i hope that this meeting in Singapore will be a great success and further improve the image of Singapore with our ideals, cultures and way of living.

The case for quality early childhood education

Straits Times, 28 July 2006

INDEED, our children of the society deserve the best educational opportunities we can afford to give them as childhood comes only once. This writer has proven that studies show that children are better educated from a young age, they are also more productive as adults and are less likely to require welfare and other public assistance. However, i disagree with him that we should all begin sending children to kindergardens at earlier ages than the usual 5 to 7 years old. I do not support his view that in order to achieve the best outcomes for our future generations and country with limited resources and talent, we push the child to have structured early learning. I feel that this deprives the children of their childhood. Where has all the past times for children gone to? The memory of these new generations will only have memory of their past time as studying and more studying. Yes, it is good to nurture the child in different aspects such as music, arts, sports, science, math, history, but aren't they too much for such young and naive beings?

Scientists here find gene that causes blindness in kids

Straits Times, 1 August 2006

SINGAPORE has made a major advancement by discovering a sophisticated genetic analysis on the gene that causes blindness in kids. The Singapore Eye Research Institute (Seri) has taken samples from siblings whom all suffer from the same rare disease, known as congenital hereditary endothelial dystrophy. I am proud of the team that has identified the gene responsible for turning off the protein needed to keep the cornea functioning properly. As Singapore further expounds on science and technology, i believe that there will be greater discoveries that will cure current terminal diseases. It appears that it is harder to identify the defective gene causing blindness in elderly because there are multiple faulty ones, hindering the search for the specific one.

A global search for their roots

Straits Times, 31 July 2006

There seems to be a turn around in the concept of youths lacking the knowledge of our roots. The younger generation appears to have begun their interesting journey of searching for their ancestors past and lifestyles. Some young adults around the age of 20 and above have made trips to their old hometowns in China, chinese clans, India, and local museums to understand more of their heritage. They are not content with just tracing their roots but have put more effort in trying to embrace the culture. I agree that it is best to reach those people out there to embrace their own original cultures when they are young. But not too young. The motivation of wanting to know must be instilled in the being before the emphasis begins. I believe many poeple in Singapore are struggling to grow up in this multi-racial country as part of their search for their national identity. Being multi-racial, we tend to get our ethnic identity diluted because we assimilate with our friends of other races. Nowadays, globalisation has invited western influence such that chinese people speak better English than chinese. While, some indians speak chinese and dont know their own mother tongue. While some others do not even speak their own language at all. I feel that there is a need for us to be open to learning other cultures and languages, but our own roots must be present.

MOE identifies key areas in drive to improve English

Straits Times, 26 July2006

IT is very encouraging to know that the government is doing their part to help pupils who come from non-English speaking homes in their process of learning English well. I feel that free copies of Sunday Times to needy students is a good move to spur the children to read. Indeed i feel that one of the most important factors in a child's development is the teachers. MOE is hence enlarging the pool of good English teachers. I feel thrilled by the new method teachers have come up to teach the children. Instead of the normal grammer lesson, students choose a book to read and they are given the freedom to ask any questions about what they doubt, they begin writing short stories, do role playing or even using puppets to act out the storyline. Although this method might sound rather stressful on the child, it might actually be a better way for the child to converse with the teacher and make learning much easier and faster. I hope there will be more new learning methods that will enhance the child's ability to reach his or her potential and increase productivity.

Speaking of good English

Straits Times, 20 July 2006

ENGLISH is one of the most important languages in the world. I feel that the government is doing well by launching the Speak Good English Movement. This campaign will encourage more people in the service and educating sector to self-improve. I believe one's ability to speak fluently with good grammer, articulation and pronunciation sets the first impression. And the first is important, because it reflects the character. I find it rather embarassing when waiters and waitresses offend tourists or local customers as a result of their careless behaviour in pronouncing their words properly. For instance, 'it's a pressure (pleasure) to meet you..' "three" has become 'tree'... Most importantly, for students to learn to speak well, teachers who teach English-based subjects need to be a good example to their students. It would be good if such teachers or civil servants do undergo retraining in their articulation. I feel that it is also important for air stewardess to speak good english too, because they serve as the Singaporean image. Although Singlish gives Singaporeans their unique identity, it is not the proper language.

The ultimate casualty

Straits Times, 18 July 2006

THE deteriorating Middle East situation has been an arising anxiety over the world. This has made me worry that the World War III of nuclear power is coming very close. I find it frustrating that the Hizbollah lighted the spark between the already-present conflict between the two countries by kidnapping two Israeli. I feel that continous strive to disable Hizobollah forces' in Lebanon by bombing is a fruitless tragedy. The innocent Lebanese are being killed, with the left behind family members as refugees living in fear and sadness. Who benefits? I feel worried that UN peace talks have not yet come to a successful conclusion as the dispute might be further strained every second of time. No one knows the future and the by the minute more blood is shed. The study which began 3 yrs ago required 5000 pairs of twins but because recruitment was passed through word of mouth, the media, letters to schools and the hassle of asking permission from parents, only 159 pairs and 2 sets of triplets signed up. As they had no access to the registry of births it has been really difficult for these researches. This study might find resons to why and how twins and triplets get common diseases and disorders like asthma, myopia, and see whether it is caused by the genes or the environment. Iam very encouraged that as technoly and science advanced, more diseases and disorders have have cures. This will definitely ease the stress parenst have over their ill-fated children. I encourage twins and triplets to email twins@nus.edu.sg or call 64789901 to help the Biomedical Research council.

Rethinking racial harmony in Singapore

Straits Times, 29 June 2006

SOMETIMES we should not take for granted our racial peace. That harmony was achieved only after great efforts put in by the government and the community to understand each other better. I feel that although racial differences were always present, it was the effort put in to see beyond the differences that kept our country, Singapore free from racial riots. The sense of responsibility to maintain that peace has been deeply inculcated in our minds but i feel that there is a need it be continually reminded in the days of this younger generations. Racial Harmony month is just around the corner. I agree that commemorating racial harmony raises awareness about inter-racial "realities" of the past but it might also stir up past instilled anger. Indeed the importance if racial harmony has become more and more important as the greatest prevention of terrorism is it.

Death is not the only way out

The Straits Times, 5 July 2006

IT is truly devastating to hear of such news that there is increasing number of young suicides across the years. I find it disappointing that although the suicide numbers are highest among other deaths, it is the most under reported in the media. It is surprising to know that it is deliberate that the media only reports extensively death news that involves well known people or when some unusual aspect comes to light. I believe the media has a lot of responsibility to hold for suicide cases. Movie serials that show explicitly the methods used and the romanticising and glorification of the act has influenced many real live cases to occur. I agree with the writer that it is indeed a dilema whether to report more or less suicide news on the newspapers. There is the possibility of copycats but yet there seems to be a lack of awareness in the community about suicide. I find it terrifying that the rate of suicide cases have not steered down, instead remained high and increasing higher annually especially when there are many telephone helplines, counselling and support services. It is very true that the youth has to be more exposed to these issues as it helps them know better what drives a child to contemplate suicide. I find it very true that usual mourners at a wake ask how a person died but at a suicide wake aks why? Children need to understand that choosing death is not the only alternative method to be released from all stress or problem concerning, examinations, trouble at home or heart break between BGR. Indeed, raising their awareness through the media, new help avenues or others who have bounced out from more dire situations can testify and encourage others to keep living.

Why disallow use of correction tape in PSLE?

Straits Times, 4 July 2006

I AGREE that it is hard to accept the disallowance of using correction fluid during PSLE exam. Indeed if it is a standard instructions for examinations, fluid paper should not be used in schools to prevent them from getting used to them. However, i feel that it is necessary we "cross" out the answers neatly. This method might seem impractical and a waste of time, but i think otherwise. Remembering the good old days when correction fluid never existed, students used the pen erasers, feverishly rubbing off the errors. I believe this old method serves as a better way of teaching students the responsibility of writing carefully. This trains the child to be careful in writing and more self- dependent. As technology continues to advance daily, i personally feel that primitive ways do come in very handy at times.

Dengue cluster at Farrer Road condo

Straits Times, 16 June 2006

12 CASES have been found in Farrer Court Condo and 5 others at nearby Victoria Park homes. I find it infuriating and disappointing that people have disregarded repeated reminders through media and fliers to empty flower pot plates, pails, plant bowls, vases and air-con and dish trays to stop dengue fever. They have behaved so irresponsibly by causing other innocent parties to fall ill. The National Environment Agency found 16 breeding grounds where 15 were indoors! I was aghast at the large number. Officers found 443 larvae in the breeding sites located about 500metres separated away. The number of youths being charged for posting unsightful remarks or pictures on their blogs has increased. This has also caught the attention of many elders. I find it interesting on how fast news travels from a person's website/online diary (diary) to the media. Indeed this shows that technology has improved so rapidly that righteous social issues do get neglected. However, i feel that one must not generalize all bloggers are insensitive when writing their views. Hence, i feel respect is an important factor here.

Disabled climbers to scale Mt Kinabalu - with help

Straits Times, 12 June 2006

I AM proud of these people who are determined to prove themselves against discrimination. I believe they have set a great example to other disabled people that they can still do the same things that able-bodied people do. I am very encouraged by the spirit they hole by climbing these mountains. Although climbing is dangerous for Ms Leong since she cannot hear her other teammates calling for her, she has successfully climbed Mt Kinabalu. Thumbs up for her. Her courage and determination has dispelled the notion that disabled people should not try and be adventurous. There is even so much more motivation to those who have tried and not stepped out of their comfort zones when people are still calling up to join climbing expeditions for the disabled after organisations closed applications after 2 months. I believe Singapore needs more of these adventurous people to stand up for their beliefs that rids of discrimination.

Let's talk about being stressed out

Straits Times, 15 May 2006

IT IS very true that a lot of pressure is self-inflicted. Nowadays students tend to be harder on themselves, defining excellence and intelligence only in terms of grades. I feel that sometimes it boils down to competition. We are always lookinh to have an edge over our peers. Of course, pressure is needed to strive a person to his or her potential but excessive pressure drives to madness. I believe we need to know when to apply that pressure and when to relax or that rubber band might just stretch too much and snap.

Rated 'E' for easy

Straits Times, 15 May 2006

WHAT? How can 15 out of 20 underage students be succesful in buying and watching R-21 and M18 movies? I cannot believe that whether it be isolated or popular cinemas, ticket attendants have not been efficient in their job of checking their ICs and disallowing students from watching the movies. Some teen tricks are such, " i forgot my IC", "I am of age. i'm just short", they ask older people to buy the tickets for them, enter the cinema with an older person or dress in clothes that make them look older. I find it surprising that teens would be unjustified and curious about these R21 movies that win awards. They feel unfair that they cannot watch these shows just because of their age. Well, i feel that these bans are a form of positive discrimination to protect the mind of these young teens. The main reasons are that these issues the movies bring out are either perverted or vulgar or controversial. The viewers pick these bad teaches unconciously. I feel these movies can be a major cause why there is an increasing number of young teens at the age of 12 saying the 'f' word and other vulgarities. These teens think they are mature and sensible enough? No way, say parents. I feel that not only is the government responsible for having bans and campaigns to follow such restrictions, the community of Singaporeans have a heavy duty and responsibility to enforce these rules as often and ritually as possible.

Extreme sports pull in more youngsters

Straits Times, 11 May 2006

I FIND it interesting that many teens now turn to sports as a form of relaxation. However, i feel that it is has more disadvantages then advantages. Indeed, unemployment has decreased by a significant number, bringing more revenue and more tourists arrival as a result of the casinos. On the other hand, there is a great increase in the number of school dropouts. I feel that this has a negative impact on the society. This could also hamper economic development with such labour shortage in other industries. From my point of view, it will not be good if the country relies heavily on the gaming industry. I feel that there will be many more social conflicts than the benefits the industry generates. It was a shocking news to me that the number of students quitting school for full-time work was at its highest in the past seven years. There was a comment that many students feel that they could still work in casinos if they fail academically. Their enthusiasm for academic work has dwindled in recent years. It is very true that the values of the society will be distorted by the gaming culture if nothing is done to prevent it. It is very worrying for Singapore that we will be put in a similar position. This would have a very strong impact on the literacy rate and psycological problems as a result of gambling addiction. Possibly, the ban on foreign croupiers will likely be impossible to maintain in the coming years as the number of gaming tables in Macau explodes.

Number of hungry Filipinos at record high

Straits Times, 11 May 2006

AN ALARMING rate of people living in poverty has really taken me aback. 2.8 million families went hungry at least once in three months just in Philippines. I cannot imagine how worse it can get in other developing countries. I feel that there is an urgent cry for us Singaporeans to be thankful and know how blessed we are. Being able to eat is a privilege especially when these poor young children have no access to such basic neccessities. Many organisations such as Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) and World Vision International etc have been set up in order to help these unfortunate people who cannot get out of the vision poverty cycle. From my point of view, regardless of what race or religion a person is, we should do as much to contribute in helping these developing countries. After some research, i realised that such charitable organisations actually do offer child sponsorships for this children and their community. I believe if everyone does a small contribution, it will have a great impact on them. These Filipinos who have to live admist all the trash, garbage dump didn't choose to be born there. I wonder how does the Government have sufficient funds to complete the upgrading projects in 5 years? Are they but empty promises just in order that citizens will vote PAP? I feel it hard to understand whether it is true that uncontested wards won't recieve upgrading since there are no opposition parties? I believe the ruling party needs to have opposition parties and competition before they realise how important each constituency is. This then will the people living in that district fully benefit from offers the government provides. I agree that upgrding should be a national decision, and not just one party to make.

Grooming session goes wrong and Maltese puppy ends up castrated

Straits Times, 1 May 2006

NOT to be sadist, i found it rather hilarious to read this article. I feel that it was very careless of the Maltese owner to have neglected the poor puppy. How could a blow-drying machine cause a dog to injure its hind leg? I found it rather interesting that the poor dog body temperature shot up to 41.7 degrees celcius as a result of the pet shop being oblivious to its constant barking. I believe no one should be blamed for this incident. However, I feel that owners should take more time off for his or her pets, treating them like humans if they are really commited to rearing them.

Life-saving aid for leukaemia patients

Straits Times, 29 April 2006

IT is important to contribute in helping those less fortunate their ourselves. I feel that it is important to put aside prejudices against organisations that have misused donations for personal factors. There is always the innocent party of people who are really desparate for help financially, medically and emotionally. I feel that we should be thankful for our blessings and ability to gain food, education and medical help. I believe that if everyone opens their heart to generously donate a portion of what they get to the low-income families or those people having diseases or illnesses, there wil be less trouble in collecting funds. I am proud of these volunteers who are sincerely trying to help and show their love to those receiving treatement. I hope that there will be more youths also stepping up to contribute to these people.

Children: Dad to blame for marriage woes

Straits Times, 27 April 2006

I FEEL unjustified for this lady who has just passed away. I also pity these children who have just lost their both parents, mother and father as a result of their dad's woes. I feel that it is unfair that the muslim law says that a man can have 4 wives and yet a muslim lady is not allowed to be seen with another man who is not her husband. I find it downright unfair that men can have extra-marital affairs and not be punished for their infidelity to their wife. However men become revengeful and violent when they find out that their wives have affairs. I feel that it is important for only one man and one woman to be the proposed couple. Each individual, whether man or woman should be held equally responsible when they commit adultery. I do not agree with the portrayal of Madam Chitrabathy in the negative light of having five affairs during her 20 years of marriage. From my point of view, the accused was just throwing his rage on his wife because of his inferiority to his wife for his wife was the breadwinner of the house after he lost his job. I believe the relationship between husband and wife and parents with children went downhill as a result of breakage in communication. Misunderstanding and frustration leads to jealousy and eventually violence. I really hope that help will come along the way of the left behind and physical and emotional wounds will be healed.

More e-game meets on cards

Straits Times, 18 April 2006

I FIND it interesting that many are seeking cybergaming as a professional "e-sport". Computer games were once known as simple toys to young children and now it has become an important tool of entertainment, social and economic issues. I am encouraged that the gamers will have more opportunities coming up in Singapore this year. It is encouraging to see that so much money (estimated amt. of $53 million) was generated by tourism revenue as a result of last year's World Cyber Games held here last year. I cannot believe that there can actually be illegal migrants who have settled there since 1992 or even earlier. I feel cynical that the country is actually 'made' by immigrants. I feel that these immigrants should have the right to live in US. After all they have gone to US not to cause trouble but to find jobs. They love the country because it gives them everything. I really symphathise with these thousands of immigrants and their families who are struggling for their citizenships in US. I do not trust myself to have the same determination and perservation to fight for my rights. I feel that if US government wanted to stop illegal entry into the country, they should have enforced it much earlier. To chase these people who 'belong' here is equal to taking away their attachment to their 'home'.

Let's talk about JOBS

YOUTHink - Straits Times, 10 April 2006

I AGREE we should follow our hearts and ambitions. If only i had a choice to take either one of those subjects, i believe i would have excelled in them. I am very encouraged that the MOE has allowed students to pursue their interests in these topics. For example, knowing the demand and supply concepts in secondary school which is related to us is very helpful when we purchase goods. And knowing more in depth of such subjects only offered in junior colleges, polytechnics, ITE and universities in the past, helps the person make an earlier and easier choice of what they want to specialise in in the future. I believe that with a greater range of subjects youths can choose and take up as their electives will further expand their general knowledge of the current world.

How to impose fair sentence on mentally ill offenders?

Straits Times, 8 April 2006

IT must be really tough to juggle the dilemma judges face between sentencing truly mentally ill offenders and those who are not psychiotic. I feel unjustified that some offenders who are not mentally ill are charged leniently. It is very common recently to see cases of brutal muderings. As a form of pacification to the public, there is always a medical reason behind the murder. In this manner, she will not pose a threat to the outside world.

Jailed for trying to kill himself - thrice

The Straits Times, Thursday, 30 March 2006

THIS man who attempted suicide thrice was jailed for 5 days and 15 for kicking a policeman who tried to save him. I found it rather hilarious to hear that a man would be charged just because he was trying to kill himself. I pondered that would it be better if he was smart enough and died successfully instead of going to jail? Why would the police stop him and put him in jail? I found it very interesting when my sister and i had a discussion on why he would have been stopped. I feel that it can be viewed from two different perspectives. Firstly, the Singapore government believes that one is responsible to him or herself, the family left behind and society. Hence, the person should not give up his or her own life. I find it very interesting towards how the country looks upon this situation. It is easy for a person to die but most difficult for the left behind. How true these words! If you die, you are just shrugging the responsibilty of your family who depend on you for money and food. The society needs you as a resource in the work field. By destroying your own precious life, you are causing much more harm than you can percieve. By the second perspective, the religious aspect. I believe as a Christian that by killing yourself, you are accountable to God, your creator. He is the one who formed you and to lose your life intentionally is to disregard your worth and purpose on the Earth. Thus, i believe that it is wrong to commit suicide. You can easy get help if in emotional distress from different associations who understand what you are going through and help you through.

Guide dogs getting a second look, finally

The Straits Times, Thursday, 30 March 2006

FINALLY, guide dogs are going to have a second look, and be allowed here in Singapore! I feel very touched and encouraged by Mr Kua Cheng Hock who has been lobbying for more than 20 years for guide dogs to be allowed here. As there are many rules such that guide dogs are not allowed in hospitals and clinics because they might alarm patients, the government rejected the idea. From my point of view, this is a natural phenomenon. As most dogs salivate, bark or bite, the society find it hard to accept dogs in public areas. Especially, as there are people who are afraid or dislike dogs, would strongly disagree such guide dogs. However, i am very glad that Mr Kua's efforts did not go down to waste. In Dec 31 last year, the government permitted guide dogs. I believe that without these dogs, it will bring more loss to the blind people than the benefit we gain without them. I feel that we need to look on the bright side that if you dislike the dog, just ignore it and it would do the same. Since it is they are trained dogs, they are meant to be harmless and just only of help to the handler. Indeed, i agree that we Singaporeans need to be used to seeing such guide dogs around in the public in future. I also feel that we should do our little part by raising money to help these blind people who are interested in having guide dogs to having training in America.

Law society website hacked into and defaced

Straits Times, Monday, 27 March 2006

IT is very disappointing that there is increasing number of people who waste their talent in computer engineering by hacking into websites and accounts. Apparently, this hacker by the name of Capricorn added a video from a TV series in Turkey, called Valley of the Wolves Iraq, about Turkish soldiers in Iraq into at least 10 websites worldwide. After an email to the hacker, the Straits Times had a reply that the only reason he defaced the websites was to have fun. I feel distressed that things have been disrupted as a cause of these psychotic people. Truly, it is surprising that anyone would want to show his indifference towards violence in war although the website is neutral which is used to port informaion for public and lawyers. In addition, i also feel sorry for these innocent people who have to suffer as a result of the battle of Iraq and US. As a result, to show their anger and hatred, most of them, terrorise, kill other people globally and hack accounts.

Singaporeans more sporty, keen on fitness now

Straits Times, 23 March, thursday

OUTSTANDINGLY, jogging still comes in first for male and female singaporeans top preferences for their exercise. It is very encouraging to hear that Singaporeans are more sporty nowadasy. Perhaps this is a result of the rise in sickness and illnesses in Singapore. People have finally seen the need to keep fit and healthy. I feel that exercising is a very good way of relaxing and destressing. It is harmless, healthy and fun! It is also a time for people to bond and know each other better. Although life in the modern society is so busy and hectic daily, there is a need for everyone to fit in a short laspe of time to exercise in their schedule. The simple ones like jogging, running, walking and swimming usually takes up very little time and are best suited for those who dread moving about actively. Otherewise the interesting one can be soccer, dancing and cycling. Interestingly, yoga has become one of the popular sports this year. Many people seek to yoga has a form of mental and physical relaxation. As yoga promotes the clearing of the mind and positioning in different ways, it helps to destress. However i disagree strongly with yoga. Any other methods of exercising are acceptable, except yoga. Yoga is a hindu form of worship to the hindu gods. Every position of the procedure is a form of worship to the god. And the clearing of the mind endangers the spiritual mind of a person. If one is to clear his or her mind, it allows demons to enter the body and affect the whole-being. I do not believe that this is the best form of aerobic exercise good to the body. The others are better forms of relaxation.

Security cameras on most buses, trains soon

Straits Times, 22 March, wednesday

IT is comforting to hear that the government is doing something to curb terrorism and unpredictable mishaps in public transportation like buses and trains. Security cameras that can capture what happens at insignificant places will be very useful. A number of people who take MRTs and buses often were interviewed about their opinions about the installation of security cameras. Surprisely, there was quite a number who responded that the bad effect of such an undertake was the lack of privacy. I do not really agree with this view. I would rather be safe and lose my privacy than come to any harm. The question is who will foot the bill? Should it be borne by the government and transport companies or us? I feel it should be us. Everyone needs to play a part in sharing the cost of having a safe country. I feel that the security cameras only are insufficient. The alert watch out through the cameras is as essential to notice any mischief or crime.

High health alert at childcare centres

Straits Times, 21 March, tuesday

HAND, foot and mouth disease is back on strike! This has callled in much rienforcement for public health awareness. Alarming rate of 3 out of 4 children in Singapore infected have had the EV71 virus which is rather serious. As it cannot be cured by antibiotics, much care has to be taken to enforce cleanliness and let the child slowly recover on his/her own. However the problem of irresponsible parents still arises. Those working parents who have sick children do not find the time to take leave and keep the child at home, instead continue letting him/her go to school. As a result, the child spreads the sickness to others and it develops into the EV71 virus. I feel worried for the welfare of such young children. These parents should develop a sense of responsibility towards the welfare of their children and the welfare of others. I believe through everyone's cooperation to prevent infection and separate infected patients and uninfected from each other in public areas, the virus can totally be ended.

Is it all a question of openess?

Straits Times, 15 March 2006

I FULLY agree with this writer. Many youths now view those who are against pre-marital sex as immature, prejudiced and judgemental. As the word itself descibes - pre-marital sex is unnatural because it is sexual intercourse before marriage. I believe sex is a gift given from God but only to married couples. Even the majority of non-christians believe that such activity should only be practiced when the couple is married. Hence, i believe my stand is not bias. After all, sex is sacred. Like the question the writer posed, does taking a stand against pre-marital sex mean you have an enlightened mind? Of course not. Many youths now are under great peer pressure; in order not to look old-fashioned, follow their friends in lifestyle choices - sexual behaviour in dating, pornography and clubbing habits etc. These teens believe that openess to sex is a mark of maturity. I strongly am against this! Of course not! As it is written in the bible, when a man has sexual intercourse with another, he is uniting himself with her in flesh. This should only be done between a married man and wife. While sexual intercourse between a man and another man or a woman with another woman is homosexuality, which is sexual immorality and is greater sin the Lord's eyes. People view sex as pleasurable and it can be done according to the individual and own's instinct. Than how are we differentiated from animals? We are no better than animals if we treat sex like all our other impluses! Where has all the efforts to promoting abstinence from sex outside marriage gone to if people are so obstinate towards seeing that pre-marital sex is not wrong? Indeed even if the decision to have sex prior to marriage has been made after great consideration, there is the commitment to the permanent relationship that has been made after such intercourse. The social problems will also surface. What happens if the female youth becomes expectant? What happens to her studies, family and own diginity? Sex is not a question of openess but the commitment and union between the couple. It is sacred and should remain the same.

Pictures snapped without consent: What can we do?

Forum - Straits Times, 13 March 2006

WHAT has the world become? Thoughts, media and people have become so immoral. Liberalisation has allowed people to do as they like, through unethical means and practise sexual immorality. I am very upset that a man may take pictures of strangers without their consent, taking for example in the MRT. I emphathise with Ms Sim Khadijah Mohammed who faced bad experiences of men whipping up their cameras staring blatantly at her chest. These perverted men definitely must be caught by the law! Of course to prevent it from happening, we girls must be watchful of our own dressing. Wearing inconspicuous loose-fitting T-shirts and short skirts in the train during peak hours would surely attract the attention of perverted men. I agree that it is very unsatisfying to be told that we may ask the person to delete the photo from his phone. The reason being what if he denies of having taken the photo or refuses, we have no further recourse because seizing the phone would place you at fault in the eyes of the law. If only it was so easy to plead with the society to promote and practice good morality.

Man jailed 3 months for torturing kitten till its eye protruded

Straits Times, 7 March 2006

I WAS aghast hearing this! Woah, people actually can be so sadist to torture animals repetitively without feeling guilty? What has the world become? Although i am not very pet friendly and am rather afraid of some breeds, i am very infuriated with this animal abuser. Poor innocent animals that come to harm! I am glad that this man has been caught and puished for his misdeeds. This poor kitten only one and a half month old was hammered till it bled profusely. I plead with the community here to consider the emotions of these innocent animals. If you detest animals, you can don't rear it. Or perhaps you can donate them to someone who treasures pets or donate them to SPCA. Please don't torture them. I personally feel that people have not considered the consequences of eating too much. Especially when they eat excessive oily food that has a lot of fats, too salty or sweet stuff. We must learn to eat in moderation just like how we live and do everything in moderation. On the contrary of eating too much; eating too little also will lead to health problems like being anorexic and malnutrition. After all, our body is the temple of God, we must reverent our body. =p Parents must also remember to watch what their young teens eat apart from themselves. The fast-food industry is expanding fast with attractive hamburgers, fries, nuggets, chicken etc. Surveys show that such oily and preserved food actually deprive consumers with the necessary supplements one requires daily. In turn, it affects the growing child/teen's height, weight and even intelligence! So, the next time you or friend decides to eat something. make sure it is beneficial rather than permissible.

Reclaimed land under threat

INDEED, it is worrying to see that our only source of extended land area is threatened by receding waters. It is very distressing to consider what Singapore will be reduced to in a few years time when it is completely covered by water. I feel that we must stop negative environmental impact in order to save the already scarce land here in this small island. I agree fully with Prof. Tan that was something unexpected and although this can be ignored in countries with abundant land, we cannot take this matter lightly for this land-scarce Singapore. The people or passerbys must have been horrified to see the dire effects of the erosion. Thankfully no one has been hurt so far. This allows the acknowledgement of good staff with exuberant attitudes. Indeed it is a national importance that Singaporeans bad attitudes towards serving others and receiving service have been rather bad. This has also left rather bad impressions upon foreigners. The ongoing training programmes and schemes to encourage good service have finally paid off. This will greatly improve the standard of living currently in the mainland. I feel that it is worth it spending so much money in order to develop the chinese with a good education, hence breaking the vicious cycle of poverty in China. Reforming the funding gurantee system for the chinese students will defenitley enlarge the capcity of students being able to study and develop skills. I am very encouraged to hear that an improvement to the education system such as eliminating fees in primary schools and giving free textbooks in rural areas. This will give poor and young children a chance to read books and further their inquisive spirits and broaden their knowledge. I feel that this has been and still is a serious problem that affects health and the environment. The release of carbon monoxide from coal furnaces, cars and factories has caused many deaths. There also been a rise in health problems such as asmtha, breathing problems, eye irritation etc. I feel that as China begins to develop gradually through technological methods to improve living standards, it must not neglect the consequences of such secondary activities. I am very against the idea of an IR and some more two of them. There are many social problems such as increase in crime rates, unemployment, family breakdowns etc. Although these resorts are very essential to Singapore to improve the economic stability and gain much more profit, i feel that it is not mandatory. There are surely other methods that will incur revenue for Singapore. Although there has been many preventive measures for such social problems, i believe that civil problems will still happen. The presence of such casinos will affect the upbringing of young children and teens. I was suprised when i initially found out that 2 IRs where being permitted although there was much opposition from churches, community centres, social councils and many more organisations. Singapore that has refrained from setting up casinos like Las Vegas (Sin city) , Macau and other countries has suddenly decided to 'go with the flow'! Although i know that the presence of casinos will attract many tourists and help in the future establishment of Singapore, it is very disappointing to know of such news. I can only hope that there will be more counsellors and psychologists available to aid and stop gambling addictions together with its subsequent pyschological problems.

Let's talk about BAD MANNERS

YOUTHink- ST :Feb 13 2006

I AGREE fully with the writers regarding the attitudes and manners of youngsters nowadays. It has really deteoriated over the years. I believe it could possibly be the result of the advancement of technology and modernization that gives leeway for liberalism. In this manner, parents do not emphasize or exert much force to ingrain in their teenagers the need to respect others. "Magic" words such as 'please', 'may I', 'thank you' are indeed rare to hear amongst these teens. However, there is of course the minority but presence of youths who are polite and considerate. Hence, I feel that although there are rude youths, we must acknowledge the fact that there is still the presence of those who have been well- brought up and very pleasant to his or her peers. Indeed, emotional quotient is necessary for people to communicate effectively to lead a morally upright life.

A cellphone nicked every two hours

Straits Times - The Sunday Times: Feb 12, 2006

I AM shocked to read the news about the alarming increase in phone thefts. I find it impossible to believe that a phone is being snatched or forced from its owner every two hours. However it is still true. I feel that if this issue is not solved as soon as possible, this might be a deterrent for tourists to visit Singapore. It is really upsetting to see such audacity these criminals have just to get fast cash. I feel that nowadays such youngers lack the moral values for righteousness nad having the simple courage to stand up for what is right. In order to get fast cash, these people resort to stealing handphones in order to sell them to second-hand phone dealers. I am gald to see that the government has stepped up by making it mandatory for sellers to leave their phone particulars, date of purchase, name and identification number for reference. In this manner, it then would be easier for police to check during investigations. In order to improve more of such social problems, more campaigns should be held in schools and public areas to emphasize the importance of honesty and integrity. Similar to what i am saying, campaigns such as discouraging the piracy of original CDs, VCDs, DVDs and music have been held. This makes the public aware that what they have been doing is wrong. This also is like a form of warning before the police catch any of these illegal selling, purchasing or usuage. At least these teens will not have a good excuse to give for owning such goods.

More parents hiring PIs to spy on teens

The Straits Times, 6 Feb

I AM appalled upon hearing that there has been a great increase in hiring PIs! Parents who seek PIs to investigate their children instead of having a heart to heart talk with them shows that they are insincere. Possibly it is because some of these parents are so busy working and often coming home so late that lose communication with their growing teens. Instead of spending more time to understand what they are going through, the parents 'hong' , pacify the teens with high allowance money. I feel that this is giving rise to social problems in Singapore. Although there has been cases where parents are successful in pulling their children back on the right path, it might make the children rebel even more because they feel angry and distrustful of their parents. There could have been a breach of trust between the parents and child. It feels unjustifying that there is no freedom and privacy where ever they go.

I agree that it helps to monitor the children's movements and behaviours especialy if the teen has mixed with the wrong company and clique. However, i personally would not hire a PI to spy on my teen if i feel there is something fishy with my teen. Instead i most likely would approach cousellors or books to read on how to handle my teen and learn to understand what he or she is going through. I feel that sincere care, love and attention showered on the teen can move mountains!

She's 15, he's 30 - should they be dating?

The Straits Times, 5 Feb

I AM against couples who date when their age difference is so big. Although in past generations it is very normal to see married couples who differ at least 10 years in age, it seems unnatural in such an up-to-date society. Girls feel more secure, protected and encouraged when they date men older then themselves. They feel cared for, loved and pampered by these boyfriends. Young teenage girls feel proud that they have an older boyfriend who works because he will be able to afford to bring her to expensive restaurants and give them gifts such as diamonds and jewellery. However i feel that these female youth fail to realize that they are only in search for a father figure. If you are deprived of fatherly love, when you come from a broken family, you tend to look for older men who can satisfy your wants.

I believe it is impossible that the relationship will turn out well and last long. The reasons being, although you feel comfortable with your older boyfriend because he sees the potential in you and motivates you, he not necessary will always remain loyal to you. Although he knows you well enough because he's older, you not necessarily will understand what he is going through all the time because you are younger.

I agree that girls mature faster than boys but boys will eventually mature when they grow older, especially after finishing their national service. I feel that it would be best that relationships be established only when you and your boyfriend are grown up and mature, hence understanding each other so much better.

Older men know how to keep secrets from you. Some may have a wife at home and you will never know. In addition, younger men will beat around the bush and court you, but the older men are usually very straightforward and will ask for sex. I feel that there is no rush to getting into a boy-girl relationship. Eventually when you grow older and more mature, your Mr. Perfect will just come your way!

Singapore family robbed at petrol station in JB

The Straits Times, 3 Feb 2005

I FEEL sorry for those victims who suffered bruises as a result of being robbed. I feel that it is rather unsafe visiting Malaysia, particularly Johor Bahru. Since at least 4 years ago i have heard of frequent repeated cases of robberies in Malaysia's highways. If not cases of wallet and handbag robberies, there would be life threatening experiences Singaporeans meet when they visit Malaysia. With the chinese new year festival here, it is inevitable that these robbers seek prey upon Singaporean cars in desperation for cash. I feel that the only way to prevent such repetitive robberies from occuring, is to visit Malaysia less frequently. The demand of cheap goods and cheap petrol in JB definitely attracts many Singaporeans to travel a day to and back Malaysia. However, what other way can we do to stop being victims when we visit Malaysia?

Cloning (TIME)

28 November 2005

One of the most amazing inventions - Cloning

IN the year of 2005, South Korean scientists have finally succeeded in cloning a dog from an Afghan ear cell after two years of trial and error. As technology advances, many sheep, mice, goats, mules, rats, monkeys, cows and pigs have been cloned all over the world. I feel proud that globally, countries have improved tremendously in technology, increasing living standards and quality of living. However i am very against the cloning of living creatures, especially humans. Cloning is different from natural fertilization, it is accomplished by a technique called "somatic cell nuclear transfer." One takes the nucleus from a body (somatic) cell and transfers it into a female egg which has had its nuclear material removed. Then with an electric current or chemical stimulus the cloned embryo begins to divide as does a fertilized embryo.

In my opinion, i feel that the action of cloning is going against the principles of nature and is challenging creation. Cloning is like another form of duplicating multiple similar forms. It is unnatural and gives rise to negative consequences. There is the potential for mutation, transmission of mitochondrial diseases, and the negative effects from the aging genetic material. I feel that cloning is a form of defiance towards the creator of the created living. Why can't we just accept and leave things as they are instead of trying to create your own? I would like to picture myself as a potter and creating my individual unique clay. If someone were to copy me by duplicating my precious self-made clay without my allowance, not only would i feel hurt, i would feel indignant.

CNY? We're OPEN for business

The Straits Times - 28 Jan 2006, Saturday

CHINESE new year is now a few hours away... The celebration in school on friday was very fun and entertaining! As i chanced upon this article, i began to remember the precious and amiacable memories of the past chinese new yr celebrations in the different home visitations! The season and festival is not only to recieve red packets, hongbaos but also a precious time of fellowship and bonding between long- distance relatives and friends to catch up with. The reunion dinner is also another tradition that is worth remembering. It is during this gathering where the family eats and shares about themselves over the past year experiences.

This newspaper article writes about how many shops and food stalls have decided to open for business during chinese new year holidays to earn more profit and pacify their regular patrons.
I agree that it makes perfect sense to open for business during this busy period of festive season. People, mostly chinese are usually on the road on the first few days of chinese new year and will definitely look around for open food oulets. However, when they venture in search for food, most food stalls are closed for the holidays and it is really very disappointing. This few days are the best time to attract customers to their food stalls because the people are willing to pay more for the regular food and there is usually more patronisers at this time. I hope it will be much easy to find open food stalls and shops during the chinese new year holidays.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://riaku.blogspot.com/2006/01/cny-were-open-for-business.html' title='CNY? Some people had their flights delayed for a few hours but others, a longer period of time. I feel extremely sympathetic towards these people who were stranded. I personally would also be very upset and frustrated if my schedule and plans were affected as a result of the unexpected natural disaster. From my point of view, it isn't wrong to feel indignant towards the airport for causing disruption in your program but it unnecessary to react so strongly by shouting and slamming the information counters in response to your dissatifaction of the airport's services. It was unexpected that the snow storm would arrive and it was inevitable that public transportation be ceased as a result of the bad weather.

I feel that the services of the Narita airport should be reevaluated to improve the standards of the airport and satisfy the requirements of the passengers. I believe it would have been much better and less chaotic if the airline staff filled in the passengers with information of the situation. It would also have been much better if the Narita airport staff had improtu plans for the provision of sufficient food and blanklets for their passengers. If there is no immediate effect in improving these services, Tokyo, Narita Airport faces the risk of deterring people from visiting Japan.

Re: longan's blog

Hi hi,
in response to eunice's article.

Yes it is truly touching that the love between a lost daughter and mother can be so strong. It reminds me of the similar incident shown in i think true courage about a chinese girl who was adopted in a malay family. When doctors and teachers saw the girl's birth certificate, they would always realise that the girl was a chinese but surprisingly in a malay family. This girl grew up to be a mother of her own and never ever knew her backgrd. Until one day, this girl's daughter came across her birth certificate and saw that this girl had an identical twin! Woah did this girl search high and low for her sister and mother. Finally after 4 yrs i think have they reunited and now both sisters are trying to learn each other's language: malay and chinese to communicate!

WHAT'S NEXT? Isn't it uniquely popular? It has been around long enough and has a high enough profile that it is easy to forget. Apple makes it's own hardware (iBooks and iMacs), and it also makes the operating system (iTunes, iMovie)... This company has given us three of the signature technological innovations of the past 30 years: Apple II, the Macintosh and the iPod. What's next?!

The different types of iPods:
--> 4 G
--> 5 G
--> mini
--> hp
--> U2
--> photo
--> nano
--> shuffle

Personally, i had never taken any interest in iPods before. Believe it or not? =p When iPods were firstly introduced, many people went crazily frantic just to be the first few to get hold of one type or another. On the contrary, since i saw that this new high-tech product was being popularly demanded, i felt more deterred from buying it. Well, think about it: what is so cool about having something everybody already has? Similar to the logic: If everyone is special, no one is special. Of course i personally felt that the ipod is interesting, special and cute since it is a creative tool newly created. However one of the most important factors that prevented me from buying an ipod was it's high cost. Haha... everyone who is reading this, please don't say i'm an economics freak 'cos i ain't one k? Ipods are normal goods because when peoples' income increases, the demand increases. =p

Practically everyone in this school currently owns an iPod. Agree? (of course excluding some people). I feel that it reflects that many of us here are rather well to do and able to afford the lastest tech stuff. But we must not forget that there are less fortunate people in Singapore. I have learnt that we must treasure what we have: our family, house, and the opportunity to study. Learn the best virtue: the joy of sharing. Posessing an iPod is not what we deserve, instead it is a privilege. We must consider some factors before buying an object: 1. Do i really really need it? 2. Is the cost going to affect my weekly/monthly savings? Or will it affect my parents into working even harder and get more tired and weary?

Looking back to the history of the revolution of the apple company:

Then: Apple II
The first large-scale-productioncomputer, created in 1977 and sporting an 8-bit architecture, was a favourite in hip '80s households

Macintosh
The original Mac, called the 128K, debuted in 1984 and was the first mainstream personal computer with a graphical user interface

iPod
With its sleek, seamless design, the company's first portable audion player, released in 2001, instantly became the ultimate icon of the digital-music age

Now: The new iPod
The fifth generation device can handle video as well as music and photos. With up to 60GB of memory, it's still 30% thinner than its predecessor

iMac G5
The slimmest desktop on the market, it combines flat-panel monitor, computer and camera in an elegant 5.08 - cm body. Plus it has a nifty remote control

What do you think will be the next most popularly demanded high-tech, coolest innovation ?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://riaku.blogspot.com/2006/01/whats-next-innovation-time.html' title='WHAT'S NEXT?
